True The North tells stories which are quintessentially Canadian. For example, the first track, Tom Thompson, is a tribute to one of Canada's most beloved artists and marks the 100th anniversary of his death in Algonquin Park. Two love songs, Talkin’Joual and Ma Jeune Fille Jolie, are written in Franglais – a mix of English and Quebecois French – while Glooscap and Marie-Helene describe the British conquest of Louisbourg from the Mi’kmaq and Acadian point of view. The sad stories of John Hornby, Glace Bay, and Lockeport Lockout are all true. Produced and arranged in collaboration with Bob Cohen, True The North is being released in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.
